The project

A museum building, made personal and portable.

Cool Toys Trend developed a 680+ piece custom building-block model of Beijiang Museum in Tianjin, China, for public museum retail, events and institutional gifting.

Our work covered creative planning, brick model design, product development and production, translating the museum’s red-brick architecture into a compact collectible visitors could take home.

Museum context: Beijiang Museum, Tianjin Municipal People’s Government.

What the product had to do

Stay recognisable

Keep the long red-brick elevation, pale roofline, window rhythm and contrasting entrances readable at a compact scale.

Carry the story

Use the box and instruction booklet to place the model within the museum’s architectural and cultural context.

Work beyond the shelf

Create one coherent keepsake for public retail, museum activities and institutional gifting.

One product system

The build is only part of the experience.

The architectural model, archival-style packaging and illustrated booklet were developed as one museum retail object. The format gives the finished piece context before, during and after the build.
